How to build rapport through an interview
1. “You have final cut”
You say anything embarrassing or that you regret than you have the ability to make that cut.
2. Social Proof
“Your friends A/B/C have been on the podcast feel free to talk to them.”
3. Send some ‘rapid fire questions’ ahead of time
Which gives them a layer of comfort to fall back on.
4. At least 10 min of pre-interview talk
If you can avoid it, you don’t always want to jump right in to an interview.
Audio check: “what did you eat this morning”
5. Elicit vulnerability
The way you elicit vulnerability is by being vulnerable yourself. Your not trying to monopolize conversations.
Making them comfortable enough to tell stories / tactics that people is being forthcoming with your own stories or things they wouldn’t expect you to share in an interview. Thus they reciprocate in turn.
