Live As If You Are Everyone — The Egg | Dear Alexander #037

What if when we die we are simply moved into a new person beginning their life at some point in history, or the future?

The catch is, we are not born until we live the life of every human that has ever lived.

While we can’t prove or disprove this, maybe that doesn’t matter.

What if we lived as if it were true.

What if I lived knowing I would embody the life, heart and soul of every person that has, and will ever live.

What does this mean?

It means I am everybody and everybody is you.

What do I do with this?

I treat everyone like I am them, and they are me.

This mean would mean…

Every time I hurt someone, I am hurting myself.

Every act of kindness I’ve done, I’ve done to myself.

Every time I’ve harboured resentment, anger or frustration at someone, I have thrust those emotions onto myself.

Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.

So treat everybody as if they were you…you’ll be better for it.

Inspired by Andy Weir

It’s a strange thought though. To act as if I need to reframe the whole world around ME in order to be kinder to another person. As if simply the act of being a kinder better person for the people isn’t enough justification to act that way.

Maybe I don’t have to hold just that view alone. Who sais I can’t simultaneously try and be kinder to others because I really believe they are their own person AND still act as if I am them and they are me. A contradiction perhaps, but maybe those two perspectives can coexist for a better existence for everyone.
